Lauren DeGeorge was raised in a historic area of Birmingham, Alabama, known as Forest Park.. The distinctly charming neighborhood, with its varied architectural themes, instilled in her a love for stately old homes, and is surely one of the reasons she has embraced the restoration and preservation of old homes and buildings in Panama City.
.
After graduating from a private school in Birmingham, Lauren decided to visit relatives that summer in the Panhandle, and decided to enroll in classes at Okaloosa Walton Junior College (OWJC). After their marriage in Birmingham, the couple moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida to establish their first home, where they lived for eleven years. They then relocated to Gainesville, Florida for three years, before reaching their final destination, and current home, to Panama City in 1984.

Lauren was a homemaker until her children were in school, as her family was her first priority. She then elected to return to school to complete her own educational pursuits, where she earned the following degrees: BS Degree, MS Degree, Troy State University; and an Educational Specialist Degree (E.D.S) from Florida State University in Counseling and Human Services.

Lauren has been employed with Bay District Schools for twenty-two years as a guidance counselor. She began her educational career at Everitt Middle School (3 years), Mosley High School (9 years), Shaw Adult Center (8 years), and presently works at the New Horizons Learning Center. Four of these conform to the requirements of the Department of the Interior for placement on the National Registry of Historic Places. Her current residence, the Historic Joshua Mercer Sapp Home in Panama City, was placed on the National Registry in October, 2003, and was recognized on a state level for its preservation efforts in October, 2004, one of twelve sites in the State of Florida.

Since May, 2005, Lauren has served as Mayor of Panama City, Florida, defeating a 24-year incumbent on a platform of citizens’ rights, intelligent planning, and open government.
