Comments :

My name is Richard T. Walker, and I would enjoy representing the citizens of Lynn Haven as your Mayor. I am married (39 years), raised one child, and have resided in "old" Lynn Haven since retiring here in November of 2001. My educational background consists of High School, U.S. Government (Military and Civilian Communications Schools), night college courses at Farmingdale, NY, and courses at the University of Maryland.

I am a U.S. Navy Vietnam-era Veteran (Enlisted), a U.S. Government retired Communications Officer (31 years Highly Creditable Service), Retired Data Analyst Instructor for EDS, former Court-Appointed Civil Celebrant (State of Virginia), NRA Certified Instructor in three categories, and am a former State of Virginia certified Armed Special Security Officer. I hold a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer's Masters Ocean License (Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard).

I am a staunch advocate of Citizens' rights and have been outspoken in the causes that erode our freedoms on both the Municipal, State, and Federal levels. I am strongly in favor of returning the Government of the City back to its citizens. They need to be brought back into the Government's decision-making process. Open Forums and Commission Meetings should be designed to allow a "civil" dialogue from both parties to chart the best direction for OUR community.

When I recently asked the Governor's Office for advice on this subject, they advised that I should seek the Electorial process to aid in my objective. The all important one vote cannot be stressed enough -- whether the citizen votes in favor of my candidacy or against -- my objective will be made -- they voted.

I completely abhore "special interest" groups and will fight to preserve the correct way to approach growth, both in physical land annexation and population increase. Preservation of our natural resources, our wetlands, and the precious water supply (that so many other areas want) are dear to my heart. This cannot be stressed enough - for if we destroy now what our children will need and inherit for the future - we cannot recapture what has taken centuries to provide.

Additional Objectives:
- A more controlled system of "money management". For example, working towards reducing our present $31 MILLION debt.
- Provide a clear, concise direction for the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
-Ask the Commissioners to base their decisions on what is best for the residents of OUR City. In addition, seek out responsibilities in the areas of their expertise to benefit the City.
- Let's take a lesson from the catastrophic disaster in New Orleans. Better preparedness and communication with our residents is mandatory to protect OUR city.
- Term Limits - Retain present term lengths (2 years), but set Term Limits at a total of 4 years.

I believe the Citizens of Lynn Haven are not being represented in the fashion that they deserve. This attitude, disregarding the heritage of the City, is not what the founding fathers envisioned. I would like to see our City return to a democratic, citizen-involved and informed community so that Lynn Haven can once again be a great place to live on beautiful North Bay.
