Comments :

I am running for the Bay County Commission, District 3 seat because I believe it is time for a fundamental change in how the commission operates. Anyone who observed the operation of the commission over the last few years knows it has suffered from a lack of direction and leadership, when I am elected I intend to change that mode of operation. The goals I have for what I will do as a commissioner are high, and I believe the citizens of Bay County are ready to have the leadership necessary to reach them.

Major Goals:

Fix the Pipeline: It has been over four years since the pipeline problem started to surface. The commission could have fixed it for $1.5M, but failed to act. Now the taxpayers of Bay County are looking at a minimum of $5M to put in a new pipeline and put mattresses over the old one, which will then have no use.

Bay County Constitution: The commissioners have failed on so many occasions to do right by the citizens of Bay County. I will work with Representative Bense and Senator Clary to grant the Citizens of Bay County constitutional powers to recall commissioners, initiate binding referendums, control tax increases, and punish ethics violations with mandatory recalls. The days of the commission ignoring ordinances for their own whims will be over.

Long Range Budget Planning: One of the great changes instituted by our new County Manager, Pam Brangaccio, is long range department budgeting. Unfortunately, the county commission has not come on-board with a long range financial program to support these efforts. I will work to get both our short and long term budget priorities aligned with income and debt service. I believe this can be accomplished without any tax increases, and I will not support any property or sales tax increases.

Managed Growth: I believe Bay County will experience significant growth in the next two decades. We need to preserve our quality of life and environment while managing that growth. I believe the real answer for growth is an improved road transportation system, not a new airport. I will concentrate my effort on reducing traffic congestion and improving high speed access through out the county.
