Comments :

This election is about new ideas and I am very aware that this county needs a new progressive approach that can only be done by someone on the outside looking in. That someone is me. I've lived in this area for almost 3 years, and visited for the past 13 years. I've looked objectively at the problems and have come to the conclusion that there are good and bad things happening in this area. I know that these problems cannot be solve by the constant bickering of the current county officeholders. The Commission gets paid to be at meetings and functions to vote for the issues that affect the people they serve.

The following are my observations and recommendations:

1. AIRPORT

It's obvious to me that there will be a new airport in our area which will bring more jobs as companies decide to locate here. It will bring new airlines with lower fares and will be the centerplace of the entire panhandle.

2. GROWTH

As the area continues to grow, we need level-headed representatives to make sure that this growth is handled properly. People no longer care to move to the higher-priced South Florida when they can enjoy our seasonal offerings at more affordable prices.

3. ENVIRONMENT

Dirt roads and replacement of septic tanks in urban areas need to be addressed.

4. SALES TAX

I am against the 1% sales tax. However, I support the 1/2% tax for the completion of the incinerator. The current commission believes that this tax will be paid by visitors. In fact, the majority of this tax will be paid by our local population. This regressive tax will impact the less fortunate in our area.

5. JOBS, JOBS, JOBS

We can no longer get by with solely service jobs fueling our local economy. We need to aggressively seek industries that will pay more than $8-$10/hour for workers.

These are a few of many problems that need to be addressed by the commission. I will do my best to serve the people of Bay County. I do not hold any alliances with any groups or individuals that may sway my decision-making.
