Planning for Tomorrow--Thoughtful Leadership Today--Independent Judgment--A Lifetime of Community Service.

Bay County is at the Crossroads
Our Commission is on the verge of setting public policies that will likely affect the future of our community for a generation. Exploding growth has made this an exciting time, but one fraught with challenges. No one can claim to have answers to all of the questions the Commission will face over the next four years. I believe that if reliable answers are to be found, it will be through thoughtful planning. Surely the goal should be to make our local government reflective of the good sense and solid values otherwise associated with our community. For me to do my part, I’ll need your support. I’m humbled to ask for your vote and involvement in this campaign. I promise that I’ll reward your confidence through the exercise of conscientious service and independent judgment.

Prepared to Serve
I have been blessed to enjoy a successful business career and I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve on the civic, charity and governmental boards of our community. I believe that many of the challenges that we face as a county can be resolved by practicing good judgment and searching for businesslike rather than political solutions. I’m not saying that private business has the answers, but I do feel that businesslike solutions can solve many of the problems we are experiencing and that businesslike decisions can help us avoid problems in the future.

As a member of to the County Commission, I am committed to use what I’ve learned in business and community service:

-- With growth will come additional tax revenues and an additional demand for government services. Our County Commission should concentrate on developing a long-term plan that respects and anticipates growth and provides for those services.
-- We should have the confidence that our County Commission doesn’t automatically say “yes” to every development plan that comes along or “no” to every idea just because a private business is involved. Our County Commission needs to put past practices aside and stop thinking in “pro” and “anti” terms.
-- You can’t plan for prosperity if all you have to offer is minimum wage jobs. Our schools, our government and our very economy all have goals higher than “minimum.” Our Commission can help Bay County reach realistic goals by establishing specific programs that organize and market the assets of Bay County to good businesses willing to invest in our future. No county plan is complete unless it results in new investment and better jobs.
-- The irreplaceable environment that is at the heart of our county must be protected. No development or county should be allowed to lessen the environmental heritage we bequeath to our children.
-- The proposed airport, the incinerator, our community hospital, our schools, courts, jail and roads. These are not “things” that Commissioners should be for or against. These are assets that need to be appreciated, protected and efficiently utilized.
-- We cannot afford the expense of a “short term fix” that leads to a long term problem.

Who you are and what you have done in the past are the key to predicting what you are likely to do in the future. What Bill Spann has done points the way to the quality of the job he will do as our County Commissioner.
