Comments :

A native of Bay County and a 1976 graduate of Rutherford High School, Mr. Abbott returned to Bay County in 2001 after many years living abroad. He is now in private business as the owner of John Boys Shoppe, a 24-hour restaurant, and Wee Care University, a child care center.

Mr. Abbott spent a 20-year career in public education, spanning 7 schools on 3 continents. His experiences include classroom teacher, club sponsor, athletic coach, athletic director, assistant principal, and principal. Mr. Abbott has served on NCA accreditation teams, SIP review committees, Special Education monitoring visits, and helped to establish the DOD schools on Guam in 1997. He taught school in Bay County in the early 80's, then served his country with the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Europe and in the Far East.

Mr. Abbott is currently serving as the chairman of the School Advisory Committee at Callaway Elementary School and is a parent volunteer in the Eastside Youth T-Ball League. He and his wife, Rimiko, have three children: Nae (6), Mina (4), and Thomas (3).

Mr. Abbott has held memberships in many professional organizations, to include Phi Delta Kappa, National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the Federal Managers Association. He believes that his breadth and depth of experience in the field of education will help him to be an effective and positive member of the Bay District School Board. His work in very diverse settings will be an asset in helping to shape policy that will provide the best possible education for all of the students in Bay County.

M.S. Ed.Leadership FSU
40+ hours of post-graduate work in the field of education at Boston University, The University of South Florida, The University of Maryland, and The University of Central Texas.
