Comments :

I want to use my education, experience, and drive to improve education in Bay County by serving on our School Board.

I earned a BS degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point. I am certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, and graduated from the Citizen Leadership Training Program at Gulf Coast Community College.

My family and I moved to Panama City after serving in the US Army in Kentucky, Georgia, Oklahoma, and two tours in Germany. I have been the Human Resources Manager at Eastern Shipbuilding Group for over seven years. Prior to my current position, I was the Executive Director of the Washington Improvement Group in Port St Joe. I have four years of classroom teaching experience as an Assistant Professor at a state university.

I am currently the President of the Human Resource Management Association of Bay County. I am also the President of a timeshare condominium association on Panama City Beach. I also serve as a member of the Haney Education Foundation Board of Directors. Previously, I was elected President of the Hiland Park Elementary School PTO and President of the Mosley High School Cheerleader Booster Club. I have also served as a member of the Bay Education Foundation Scholarship Committee and the Mosley High School Advisory Committee. I was a mentor for a student at A. D. Harris High School.

I have been married to Terri McGruder, the Surfside Middle School Teacher of the Year, for over 24 years. We have one daughter, Tinsley, a sophomore at the University of Central Florida. She is a graduate of Hiland Park Elementary, Jinks Middle, and Mosley High Schools.

I truly believe we must plan for the future. We are faced with many challenges, such as an upcoming teacher shortage, the impact of the class size amendment, county growth and aging facilities. We can not react, rather we must think, plan, and act.

We owe our children quality instruction. We have to evaluate what we are doing now, assess the needs and trends of the future, and make the necessary changes. We have to train our workforce. There is a need to emphasize vocational training in addition to our already strong college prep programs. Our facilities must be maintained. We have to provide a clean, comfortable, and above all safe environment conducive to teaching and learning. Our teachers are the vital, primary link to success. We must attract, recruit, hire, and retain quality teachers that reflect the demographic diversity of our community.

I believe I have the experience, training, and skills to help move Bay County schools into the future. I hope I can count on your vote.
