PROFILE

I grew up in the Tennessee hills and was educated at the University of Tennessee. My husband and I moved to Alabama to work and raise our family. I worked for the Montgomery County School System for six years. My husband and I owned several service stations in central and north Alabama. I opened and operated several multi-million dollar convention properties successfully and continue to work in the hospitality business, the largest employer in Florida.

We vacationed in Panama City Beach several times a year before making it our permanent home five years ago. I have witnessed the changes occurring here and wondered where the controls were set. Knowing that the decisions made in the next five to seven years will impact our beach's future, I will dedicate myself to staying current on the issues so that, with beach resident's input, I can make informed decisions. I will use my experience in local and state government to work towards well-planned, controlled progress for Panama City Beach.

PERSONAL

I have been married to Thomas Pate for 23 years. He works for the City of Panama City Beach's Underground Utilities Department. We have four children: Bill, Lisa, David and Steven. Bill works for Delta Airlines. Lisa is employed by a major grocery chain and teaches tennis. David works for the Ford Motor Company. Steven is deceased. We have three granddaughters, Sarah, Ashley and Melanie, ranging in age from 13 to 16. We have had legal custody of Melanie since she was three years old.

PLATFORM

My platform is well-planned, controlled growth. Growth is necessary and will occur whether we want it to or not. What is crucial is how we manage that growth. Planned progress will allow the beach to evolve into a place where our children and grandchildren can earn a livable wage…into a place that they will continue to want to call home.
