Comments :

Walter Travis Kelley was born in Coffee County Alabama to Vannie Lee and Samuel George Kelley. Married for 46 years (widowed 2 1/2 yrs) to the former Bobbie L. Tant of Raleigh, NC. They have three children, one son Mr. Walter Kenneth Kelley , two daughters Ms. Vicki Marie Dortch and Ms. Sara Elaine Holbrook. Four grandchildren, Kelly Ann, Patrick, Kenneth and Corinne. Also, three great-grandsons, Austin, Aiden and William. Also one great granddaughter Cheyenne LaRue. He attended Elba High School in Alabama, then joined the United States Air Force, serving the next 24 years, 8 months and 10 days-making it a career. While serving the Air Force he continued his education by attending Los Angeles Community College, University of Nebraska at Omaha and several military academy's. He received a meritorious service metal with oak leaf cluster, commendation medal with four oak leaf clusters, and numerous other citations. He served as Chief of Security Police and Superintendent of Sercurity and Law Enforcement at several bases, also Operations Superintendent of Security at the Pentagon. After retiring in 1979 he moved to Bay County and continued his education by attending Gulf Coast Community College and the University of West Florida. He worked his way up from patrolman to police chief of Callaway before becoming a probation counselor. He became more involved in community affairs and was appointed to the Lynn Haven Planning Commission in 1986. He was later elected to a commission seat for term of four years, and was appointed by the Panhandle League of Cities to be a member of the Lobbying Team. He is also a member of the Florida League of Cities Criminal Justice Committee and the Environmental Quality Protection Committee. He is presently Mayor of the City of Lynn Haven and also vice chairman of the Bay County Metropolitan Planning Organization, and a past member of MPOAC of the State of Florida. Past and present President of Bay County League of Cities, and is presently serving as a member of the Northwest Florida League of Cities and past president of the organization. Member of Military Affairs Commission, International Trade and Enviormmental and Developement Counsel. Presently serving as a board member of Florida Mayors Association. Served on Florida transportation 2025 committee. Presently serving Vice Chairman of Bay Disadvantaged Transportation committee.
