My name is Cecil “Bud” Jones and I am running for re-election for Council, Group 4. I have held this seat for the past eight years. I am asking for you, the citizens of Mexico Beach, to allow me another term to serve you and our little community.

A lot of folks ask me why would I want to run for a fifth term when so many people want out after their first or second terms? Well, there are several reasons. Since the sewer system was completed, our city has seen a sharp increase in building. I expect this growth to continue for at least a couple more years. It is important that we manage this growth so it doesn’t hurt our city and the people who have been here so long. We need people who are willing to work to manage this growth and have the courage to stand up to people who look for present gains and not future results of their developments. Also, with my twenty-five years of law enforcement experience, I have the knowledge of what is needed in our Police, Fire and ESU departments to bring quality services to our citizens. I understand the concerns of our retired folks about readily accessible health care services. But, most of all, I want another term because I like what I do. I like serving my community and the friendly folks who live here.

I think that are Vision Plan was the first and maybe the most important step we made towards growth management. By planning for the future, we can avoid mistakes that have been made in the past. We recently authorized an impact fee study. This study will enable us to intelligently look at what the city will need in the way of police, fire, sanitation, road services, etc. to meet the demands of increased growth. It will also allow the city to pass some of these costs for expanded services to the developers.

As a retired person, I am very concerned about our ambulance service. In the past year, due to the hard work of our Police Chief and City Administrator, we have been able to improve some of our medical services to our community. We have created an Emergency Service Unit that operates twenty fours a day and have train several volunteers as First Responders. Our Police Chief and Director of Public Works are both undergoing training to be certified paramedics. With all of these great advances, I still would like to have ambulance services closer to Mexico Beach. I want to work with Mr. Billy Williams, Beacon Hill Wellness Center, and Bay Medical to bring those services less than two miles from Mexico Beach.

I am proud of the accomplishments the City has made in the pass few years. And, I want to be on board when the City does more positive things for our community. As a citizen, I want our City to focus on the needs of our citizens and local businesses. I hope you will give me this opportunity to continue to work for you, to work for our city, to do the right thing for Mexico Beach.
