| Comments : | I am 39 years old and have 3 young daughters 11, 5 and 4. We moved here in 1995. We were traveling through and fell in love with Mexico Beach. We knew this is where we wanted to raise our family, a place with "unspoiled beauty". Me and my husband own and operate a small family business here. I believe that the world revolves around family. I believe that beaches, such as ours are needed to build and nurture family values. Our elected officials have forgotten what this city is really about:BEACHES. Beaches should have families on them, family businesses, ice cream parlors, salt water taffy, sand castles and basic family values and fun. These kind of businesses are the backbone of our town. Without them, we would just be another commercialized beach that has been taken away from our people. Too many businesses are already for sale , or being sold and replaced by townhouses. I have made the decision to run for city council to help preserve our little town. I would like to see Mexico Beach concentrate more on family and small businesses. We need to maintain the canal and also the limits set in our Land Developement Regulations in regards to height, density and zoning. Without these limits, the town we know and love will be destroyed. I am not opposed to growth, I am opposed to "out of control" growth and MAJOR developement of our waters edge.I hope we can all work together to "SAVE OUR BEACH" so that working families can still afford to live and vacation here in Mexico Beach without congestion and financial destitution. |
