Comments :

I have been a resident of Bay County since 1956. In 1970, I married my wife Connie, who was formerly Connie Merriam. We have two adult children, a son and daughter who are married and have blessed us with four grandchildren. My daughter resides with her family here in Bay County and my son resides in Jacksonville. My father, Joe Ashbrook is retired from the Air Force and along with my mother Betty also lives here in Bay County. My mother-in-law, Jo Ann Merriam resides here as well. My wife and I have lived in Lynn Haven for the past 16 years.

I attended public school here in Bay County and graduated from Gulf Coast Community College and the University of West Florida. I entered the family business, Merriam Insurance, in 1976. After selling the firm, I continued with the acquiring company as a regional and branch manager. I am currently an independent insurance broker with Fisher-Brown Insurance. As a successful business owner, I feel I would bring considerable experience to the Lynn Haven Commission. I have experience in the areas of budget preparation, personnel & management, marketing, and dealing with compliance mandates. I addition, through various board memberships, I have gained valuable insight and helpful contacts.

The very reasons why many of us live in Lynn Haven and others continue to want to join us have given me the incentive to seek this office. At the age of 57, this is my first venture into public office. When I consider the history and neighborhoods of Lynn Haven it makes me wonder how the inevitable growth can be managed. I think I could bring value to that management. I believe conservative stewardship will best serve the residents of Lynn Haven. Your vote on April 17, 2007 is very important.
